TREX DECKING CARE & MAINTENANCE

All exterior building materials require cleaning, including Trex decking. Generally, soap and water is all that is required to clean the Trex Transcend® range.

A pressure washer with no greater than 3100 psi can be used to remove the dirt, concrete, dust or other type of construction dirt. You can only use a fan tip and up to a 3100 psi pressure washer to remove dirt and debris. The fan tip should not be any closer than 20.5cm away from the protective shell during use.

Spray the deck with soap, and then follow by a gentle scrubbing of each deck board with a soft bristle brush. Rinse or spray each individual board using a fan tip no closer than 20.5cm from the decking board surface. Ensure that you have RINSED THOROUGHLY. If dirty water from cleaning is left to dry it will cause a film to remain on the decking surface.

***Use of a pressure washer greater than 3100 psi could damage the boards and void the warranty

Never use acetone or solvents on the Trex Transcend® range to maintain the beauty of the surface.

For small surface scratches, marks or scuffs use Dupli-Color Scratch Seal™ Clear Sealer Pen – Available Here from Super Cheap Auto

DIRT & DEBRIS

The affected area should be sprayed off with a hose to remove the surface debris. Use warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and debris from the embossing pattern.

CHALK LINES

High performance chalk lines may discolour the surface of Trex Transcend®. Use only Irwin Strait-Line®* Dust-Off Marking Chalk (Purple), available from Irwin Tools.

TANNINS DUE TO DEBRIS

Remove all debris from the deck using a hose or broom. Once the deck surface is dry, apply a deck Brightener** to the deck as directed by the manufacturer. Deck Brighteners contain oxalic acid, which removes all tannins. We recommend that you use MWT Oxalic Acid Deck Wash – Available Here

NOTE: Use of products containing bleach or acid will lighten the surface of Trex. Use in an inconspicuous area to determine whether you like the effect. Neither product will affect the structural integrity of Trex.

ICE & SNOW

A plastic shovel may be used to remove snow from the deck. Use calcium chloride or rock salt to melt the snow and ice from the deck surface.

OIL, GREASE & FOOD

All food spills should be removed as soon as possible. The Surface must be cleaned within seven (7) days to maintain the stain warranty. To remove, affected area should be sprayed off with a hose to remove the surface debris. Use warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush to remove dirt and debris from the embossing pattern.

MOULD & MILDEW

If debris such as pollen and dirt is allowed to remain on the deck surface, mould can feed on the biofilm. It is recommended to use a hose to remove the surface debris followed by warm, soapy water with a soft bristle to remove the food source and mould from the boards.

TREX CARE & MAINTENANCE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can Trex be power washed?

Early-generation Trex decking (Trex Origins®, Trex Accents®, Trex Profiles®, Trex Brasilia® or Trex Contours®), Trex does not recommend the use of a power washer. Use of a power washer will damage the decking surface and will void the warranty with respect to any condition caused by this.

Trex High-performance decking (Trex Transcend®, Trex Enhance® or Trex Select®) can be power washed. You can only use a fan tip and up to a 3100 psi pressure washer to remove dirt and debris. The fan tip should not be any closer than 20.5cm away from the protective shell during use.

Is Trex decking no maintenance?

Trex decking requires far lower maintenance than a traditional timber deck but it requires some maintenance to keep it looking good throughout the years, much like washing your car.

For early-generation Trex decking (Trex Origins®, Trex Accents®, Trex Profiles®, Trex Brasilia® or Trex Contours®), periodic cleaning with a deck wash is required.

For the newer-generation high-performance decking (Trex Transcend®, Trex Enhance® or Trex Select®) requires less work. A simple soap and water cleaning is all that is necessary to maintain the beauty of the products. However, this range can be pressure washed as well. You can only use a fan tip and up to a 3100 psi pressure washer to remove dirt and debris. The fan tip should not be any closer than 20.5cm away from the protective shell during use.
